Overview
Áslaug Íris Katrín Friðjónsdóttir
Áslaug Íris Katrín Friðjónsdóttir (b. 1981) graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York with an MFA degree in 2009 and obtained a BA degree in fine arts from the Iceland University of the Arts in 2006. A rich sense of materiality characterizes Áslaug's work, who works with abstract imagery and looks for meanings in varied material choices and methods, e.g. by drawing in a petrified surface and the interaction of stones within other components resulting in her distinctive sculptural painting style.

Áslaug has had multiple solo exhibitions and participated in group shows in museums and galleries across Europe, the United States, and Iceland. Notable mentions include Stellingar I Linear Narratives at Berg Contemporary, A17 at the Reykjanes Art Museum, Skúlptúr Skúlptúr at Gerðarsafn, as well as solo exhibitions Arfur at Gallerí Þula, Bergmál at Listval Gallery, and Skil | Skjól at Neskirkja. Earlier this year, Áslaug participated in the art fair Market in Stockholm and a group exhibition at the Icelandic Embassy residence in Stockholm as well as the group exhibition Samhljómur at the Icelandic Embassy in Copenhagen.
Works by Áslaug are held in the collections of public art museums in Iceland.
