Tolli: Sjóndeildarhringur í óreiðu // A Horizon In Chaos

19 August - 10 September 2023
Overview

In A Horizon In Chaos , the artist examines the thread between abstract and landscape works, repeated motifs and the many nuances of nature based on feeling and experience.

Tolli (b.1953) is an Icelandic artist known for his unique way of portraying the Icelandic nature, with his expressionistic brushstrokes and vivid colours. He graduated from the modern art department of the Icelandic School of Fine Arts and Crafts in 1983 and from the Hochschule der Kunste in Berlin in 1985, where he burst onto the scene along with his fellow Neo-expressionists, bringing a breath of fresh air with him to Iceland. Through out the years he has focused on the Icelandic landscape, the relationship we have with our planet and the melancholic nostalgia of deserted farmsteads. Tolli has had dozens of solo exhibitions and group exhibitions all over Iceland, as well as having exhibited extensively abroad, including Germany, Denmark, Monaco, UK, USA and South Korea. His works are in collections of public museums and companies as well as private collections.
